We are Andrés Eduardo and Alejandro M. Siegert, MFA graduates from the Savannah College of Art and Design. We met there and bonded over the work of Neil Gaiman and cartoons like Gravity Falls and Over the Garden Wall, and before long agreed to work together on a stop-motion animated thesis project.
The first draft of Con Fuerza looked nothing like the film we ended up with; it was charming, but felt shallow. When Alejandro returned from a trip to his home in Barranquilla, Colombia, he brought stories of refugees. They were fleeing Venezuela, home to Andrés’ family, working any job they could get, often at their own peril. And so, Liliana, the former journalist working in a Colombian tienda and protagonist of our film, took shape.
With help from dozens of unbelievably talented peers completed the Spanish-language stop-motion, which grew from the 2 minutes required for our graduation film, to the 9 minutes we felt would do the story justice. But the making of the film is only half the struggle. The headlines these days are very crowded, but Venezuela is facing an unparalleled humanitarian crisis and needs the world’s attention.
